This major earthworks contract at the new Jordan Springs East urban development is being undertaken by Lendlease’s Engineering business for Lendlease’s Communities business. Located on the former Australian Defence Industries site near St Marys in Western Sydney, this masterplanned community will provide residential lots for more than 1,300 new homes together with commercial/retail facilities, parks and open space. Our scope involves importing, placing and compacting approximately 2,400,000 cubic metresĀ of clean fill to ensure flood immunity for the proposed residential, retail and commercial facilities.

Challenges include European heritage constraints, working in the vicinity of endangered fauna. The site is nestled around the 900 hectare Wianamatta Regional Park on the Cumberland Plain and is home to remnant bushland featuring wildlife including kangaroos, emus and other native animals. Threatened species in the park include the Cumberland Land Snail, Broad-nosed Bat and Speckled Warbler. Other aspects of the project involve the construction of a 2km-long, 35m-wide riparian channel linking with the Nepean River as well as working in close proximity to 550kV overhead power lines.
